Feng Lili
In June 2006, Feng Lili, a self-proclaimed "medical expert" of Falun Gong, passed away at the age of 54 in a Texas hospital, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Joining Falun Gong, Actively Participating in Riotous Activities
According to her own account, the trauma of witnessing her 13-year-old brother being beaten into insanity, followed by his death in a car accident five years later while returning home with buying rice, had a profound impact on her decision to later join Falun Gong.
On April 25, 1999, the illegal siege of Zhongnanhai by Falun Gong members caught Feng Lili's attention. At first, Feng Lili had doubts about Falun Gong's sophistry, but as she shared the same political stance as Falun Gong's pawns of the anti-Chinese forces, she gradually lost her rationality. The three members of the family joined Falun Gong and have been sinking deeper and deeper into this spiritual quagmire ever since.
In December 1999, just before Christmas, Feng Lili, along with her husband and son, flew to Hong Kong to attend a so-called “Dharma Assembly”. After the event, her husband and son returned to the United States, while Feng Lili, under the pretext of visiting her parents, contacted two other Falun Gong followers and traveled to mainland China to organize an illegal gathering, and she was later administratively detained by the Shenzhen police. Certain media affiliated with the Falun gong and some Western outlets that seem to thrive on chaos in China immediately hype the story. After Feng Lili was released and deported, she attributed her release to the “rescue” efforts initiated by overseas “fellow practitioners.” At the airport, in front of the media cameras, she dramatically hugged her son and wept, staging a scene of “surviving a great ordeal”. In January 2000, this scandalous drama came to an end.
Since then, Feng Lili has abandoned her scientific research projects and traveled to more than a dozen countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Americas, and Australia, where she has rampantly carried out the activities of the Falun Gong.
Conducting “Scientific Research” for Cult Under the Guise of Science
On one hand, Falun Gong openly rejects science; on the other, it desperately tries to legitimize its pseudoscience by forging superficial links with modern scientific concepts. In his so-called “scriptures,” Li Hongzhi frequently sprinkles in scientific jargon and vague references to supposed “discoveries,” in an attempt to patch the many holes in his flawed and contradictory belief system.
Feng Lili, who participated in a series of Falun Gong cult activities, got a position in a medical school, where her questionable “doctor” title was quietly replaced with the more credible-sounding role of associate professor. As a result, she naturally became the “framer” of Li Hongzhi’s sophistry.
The most typical example is that, Li Hongzhi said that modern medicine has recognized that the pineal body is in charge of vision, so Feng Lili spent a lot of time during the two years to diligently excavate and tamper with scientific literature to write several articles, trying to persuade herself and others that there is indeed such a “discovery” in modern medicine.
Feng Lili was not satisfied with patching up Li Hongzhi’s sophistry. She began to take the initiative to use “scientific experiments” to confirm the “magic” of Falun Gong. With her husband and a group of Falun Gong followers, she utilized the conditions of the research institute to conduct various “experiments” in private, and published a series of “biomedical reports on the effects of Falun ‘buddha dharma’ ” in Falun Gong’s own media.
During this period, Feng Lili has written a number of “papers” in an attempt to “justify” Li Hongzhi’s sophistry in terms of “scientific research”. For example, she successively wrote “The Extraordinary Neutrophil of Falun Dharma Practitioners” (2001), “The Molecular Biological Mechanism of ‘substitution therapy’” (2003), and “Study of Gene Expression Changes in Neutrophil at the Gene Level Suggests that Spiritual Practices Regulate Gene Expression in Multiple Ways” (2003). However, these so-called “significant discoveries” are not included in the research results published on Feng Lili’s own webpage, perhaps she is subconsciously ashamed of these nonsense articles for fear that her peers will laugh at her.
In a “scientific conference”, Feng Lili promoted the fallacy that practicing Falun Gong could produce antibodies.
Suffering from Cancer While Still Promoting Falun Gong
Just as Feng Lili was attempting to use this extremely unscientific “scientific experiment” to prove that Falun Gong had the effect of improving immunity and resisting disease, she suffered from a terminal illness.
As a result of practicing, preaching, and indulging in Falun Gong, Feng Lili’s normal life was disturbed and her body functions were out of order. She had trouble sleeping and eating, was physically and mentally exhausted, and she was found to be suffering from pancreatic cancer during her health examination in 2003.
What was particularly ironic was that while the cancer was already eating away at her body, she was enthusiastically talking to Wang Tongwen, who shared the same aspirations as her and was studying cancer mechanisms at the University of Washington, about Falun Gong as a panacea for cancer.
After her illness was diagnosed, Feng Lili still placed her hopes on Falun Gong and Li Hongzhi. Not only did she not actively try to get treatment, but also continued to advocate Li Hongzhi’s sophistry in her scientific research and social activities.
In the spring of 2003, the SARS epidemic caused global panic, Feng Lili also traveled to Taiwan, Hong Kong and other regions, spreading rumors everywhere under the banner of immunologists, and claiming seriously that meditating and practicing Falun Gong could prevent SARS. When the threat of avian influenza alerted scientists, Feng Lili, the “SARS prevention expert,” turned into an “expert on avian influenza.” And at the end of 2005, she began a new round of lecture tours throughout Southeast Asia to build up momentum for new rumors about Falun Gong, and shamelessly cooperated with Falun Gong’s media propaganda to slander and blacken China. She even went so far as to rumorize that most of the highly lethal flu, including the “Spanish flu” that killed more than 10 million people worldwide in the last century, had spread from China.
In February 2005, Feng Lili published a statement of “three withdrawals” in the Falun Gong media. In order to sublimate her life, she also actively participated in a series of Falun Gong media programs with her husband, talking about the relevance of the “three withdrawals” in light of the natural human ecology and the inevitability of infectious diseases. To be mind-controlled by Falun Gong to such an extent can be said to be a rare anti-humor.
In the spring of 2006, she again played the role of an “organ transplant expert” and was involved in spreading rumors about the “Sujiatun Concentration Camp”.
Falun Gong Failed to Stop the Cancer from Taking Her Life
Ironically, she didn't last long in this unprecedented rumor campaign, and the severe pain of cancer finally silenced her.
Tragically, even after being diagnosed with cancer, Feng Lili continued to believe that Falun Gong could rid her body of the deadly illness. Consumed by her obsession, she rejected medical treatments, clung to the hope of a miraculous cure, and waited for “heaven” to intervene. It wasn’t until she collapsed in the lab that her colleagues intervened, forcibly taking her to the hospital, where she received over 40 days of medical care.
Comparison of Feng Lili before and after her illness
After her condition stabilized, Feng Lili was sent home for careful care, yet she continued to believe that Falun Gong would bring her a miracle. However, the so-called “Buddha Dharma” of Falun Gong didn’t offer her the luck or transformation she had hoped for.
In 2006, Feng Lili’s condition deteriorated even further, turning from carcinoma of tail of pancreas to carcinoma of head of pancreas, and she became terminally ill, with no way to save her. While she was seriously ill, many followers asked Li Hongzhi to “send out mindfulness” for her to save her life, but Li Hongzhi refused mercilessly, saying that his main energy was spent on “sending out mindfulness to Beijing”.
On June 20, after several Falun Gong followers continued to “send out mindfulness” to no avail, the dying Feng Lili was finally readmitted to the hospital. Two days later, this “medical doctor”, “professor of immunology”, “renowned bioscientist”, and “Falun Gong leader in the medical field” died.
Since then, no matter what kind of role Falun Gong needed, Feng Lili could no longer play it.
It is said that before her death, Feng Lili held the hands of people who shared the same aspirations as her and wept uncontrollably, but no one knows why.
The organization and the media of Falun Gong, which had frequently used Feng Lili in the past, did not say a word about her death. What was infuriating was that just a few days after Feng Lili's death, the Falun Gong media interviewed her husband and asked him to continue to advocate Falun Gong.
However, her regular colleagues, who are far more humane than Falun Gong followers of “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance”, added a thin black frame around her photo on the institute's homepage to express their condolences.
What Does the Death of Feng Lili Mean?
Feng Lili's death illustrates that “three withdrawals” cannot “keep the safeness,” practicing Falun Gong cannot “get rid of diseases,” “Dharma body” and “dharma-vessel”’s protection is purely fraudulent, and “completeness” is just nonsense.
Li Hongzhi set the ultimate goal of practicing Falun Gong as “attaining completeness”. Has Feng Lili, who is so advanced, been “complete”? Li Hongzhi did not say, nor did the Falun Gong media. In comparison with Falun Gong's criteria for “completeness,” Feng Lili clearly does not meet the conditions for it. Li Hongzhi boasted in his article “The Great Exposure” that a large number of his followers had been or would soon be “complete”, but in reality he has not seen a single case.
While lamenting and lamenting, the antihuman crimes committed by the cult organization Falun Gong are extremely infuriating. At the same time,it is truly regrettable that Feng Lili, who comes from an intellectual background, has poor critical thinking skills. It is hoped that the tragedy of Feng Lili can prompt people to reflect and serve as a warning, and awaken the conscience of followers trapped in the quagmire of Falun Gong. May such tragedies never happen again in the real world.
